Apps and App cache
The space an app occupies on your phone is not just the app files themselves. As you use the app, it accumulates and saves data over time. This data is saved in additional memory spaces, making the space narrower and narrower over time.
System storage
This category can be confusing because it not only includes the necessary files for Android to run on your Galaxy phone, but it also includes the mysteriously named category “Other”. This category includes all the downloaded apps’ data, such as streamed Netflix movies, offline music, and the huge TikTok database, which, without you granting the necessary permission, the Samsung storage tool cannot sort through and clear out.
Smart Switch leftovers
When you use Smart Switch to transfer data from an old Galaxy phone to a new one, or the phone’s backup process is interrupted, the phone creates massive temporary data containers, tens of gigabytes that never get deleted.
Samsung Cloud and Gallery sync cache
When a photo or a video is synced to a cloud such as OneDrive or Google Photos, instead of deleting the local copy of the file on the phone to conserve memory space, the phone keeps a full-sized version of the photo/video locally, taking up unnecessary space.
Media from chatting and messaging apps
